The Diverse Coat Society (DCS) was founded on July 2, 2022, in Greenville, MS the Heart of the Mississippi Delta.
Mission
The DCS is a society of diverse educators (e.g., primary, middle, secondary, and higher education) and healthcare professionals (e.g., physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, medical laboratory technicians, social workers, and other allied healthcare professionals) coming together to provide conversations, activities, and support for interprofessional goals leading to educational equity, health equity, and general public safety.
Vision
Everyone will have access to equitable education and healthcare services with improved outcomes.
See the DCS Model.
Purpose
Intersectionality and Black Coat Conversations (BCC) are at the core of the group’s purpose. The goal of the society is to spread our purpose through visibility and professional association. The logo is symbolic of our interprofessional roles as we wear different coats in society that will intersect to reach educational equity and health equity. In this professional association, you have the option to wear whatever color coat you want. Historically, the color is white. The foundational color of this group is black. However, we focus on all shades of the skin which is a representation of all.
The DCS serves as a professional advisory group for the J R Young Health Equity Institute and beyond. The J R Young Health Equity Institute© is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization founded to universally ameliorate educational and health disparities. The institute is located in Greenville, MS, the heart of the Mississippi Delta. The institute is research-based and provides innovative educational equity and health equity services for all.
